First field guide to Fuegian species
From the experience made with thespecies guide developed for the INFUETUR website, in 2018 we started a new project that expands the contents, both narrative and visual, and has funding from ASETUR, coordinated by the Secretariat of Science and Technology, and has INFUETUR as beneficiary.
The field guide is an app that seeks to promote environmental awareness and encourage responsible tourism habits through the visibility of the diversity of species, both native and exotic, and their interaction with the local ecosystem; disseminate the gastronomic value of some Fuegian species; deepen the sense of belonging of local inhabitants and promote the conservation of natural and cultural heritage.
Each species has information on its habitat and when to find it, its feeding and reproduction, and its interactions with other species and with the environment. In addition to photos and videos of interviews with local actors, the app has 360º photos of the different environments in the province.
Currently, many tourists seek to learn about the history, geography and biodiversity of the destinations they visit; there is an increasing demand for interpretive tourism, in general, related to the sighting of local flora and fauna. This application has the benefit of carrying a large amount of information on our own cell phone, which we can access even without an internet connection.
All information is validated by local specialists. The application is not intended to replace conventional guides but to complement them.
